# Team presence

> ButterCMS Team Presence shows you in real-time when colleagues are viewing or editing the same content, preventing conflicting edits across your team.

## What is team presence?

The Team Presence feature notifies you at the top of a page when a team member is viewing the same content in ButterCMS as you. This helps avoid conflicts and enables everyone to stay in sync.

## How it works

When you open a Page, Blog Post, or Collection Item:

1. **Real-time indicator** - A banner appears at the top showing which team members are currently viewing the same content
2. **Avatar display** - Team member avatars are shown so you can quickly identify who's working on the content
3. **Automatic updates** - The presence indicator updates in real-time as people join or leave
