Getting started with ButterCMS is quick and easy. In this step, you’ll create your free account and access the dashboard where you’ll manage all your content.

Visit the signup page

Pick a signup method

ButterCMS offers three different signup methods:
  • Password based signup: fill in your name, email address, and a password
  • OAuth 2.0 signup: signup with Google or GitHub for faster onboarding
  • Heroku Add-on: provision our Heroku Add-on to your Heroku app, and we’ll set up your account behind the scenes.

Complete your profile

Once you complete a signup method, you’ll automatically be logged in and taken to your ButterCMS dashboard, where you’ll be prompted to add your project details and role to personalize your ButterCMS workspace.
ButterCMS offers a free plan that includes all core features, so you can evaluate the platform and test your integration at your own pace. For pricing details, check our pricing page.

What’s next

Once logged in, you’ll see the ButterCMS dashboard. In the following sections, we’ll use it to:
  1. Set up a content type to define your content structure
  2. Create and publish your first piece of content
  3. Fetch that content via the API using your API token
