We’re excited to introduce a new Usage Widget in the ButterCMS dashboard — your go-to tool for monitoring key content metrics at a glance.
This real-time dashboard widget is the first step toward our initiative to deliver advanced reporting and analytics, and it’s designed to help teams stay informed about how their CMS is being used.
π What is the Usage Widget?
The Usage Widget offers a real-time overview of important CMS metrics, providing a clear measurement of your usage relative to your current plan limits.
What’s being measured/displayed?
-
π€ Total users — Number of users with access to your site/environment
-
π Pages — Total pages created
-
π Blog posts — Total blog posts created
-
ποΈ Collections — Total collections created
-
π Locales — Number of locales added to support your multilingual content
-
π Total API Requests — Cumulative API calls made
-
βοΈ Write API Calls — Number of Write API calls for creating, updating, and/or deleting content
Why it matters
This quick-glance overview helps your team stay within the usage limits tied to your plan, monitor API usage to prevent overages, and maintain content hygiene across environments.
Understanding your content usage helps you plan smarter and avoid potential interruptions. For example, if you're planning to launch a new campaign, the widget lets you see how many pages you've already created so you can manage content within your plan. If you're growing your team, it helps you track how many users you're adding. And if you're scaling your content, you can easily see how many pages or collections you're using before launching new ones.
What’s next?
This is just the beginning! We’re excited to continue this initiative with you by building out a robust reporting and analytics suite to give you deeper visibility and insights into your content performance, such as historical insights, trend visualizations, top-performing pages and blog posts, and a detailed breakdown of activity across all environments.
For now, the Usage Widget is now live in your dashboard — go ahead and give it a try!
