See how easily you can integrate the ButterCMS Pages API with your Astro app.
Seamless Astro components
Empower your marketing team with dynamic landing pages that align perfectly with your Astro components.
Components are the essential building blocks of any Astro app, and ButterCMS handles them with ease.
Our drag and drop interface makes it simple to structure your content to match existing Astro components, and to create new reusable components whenever you need them.
One Astro CMS with everything you need
There’s a reason so many developers are choosing a headless Astro CMS. It’s easy to set up, offers flexible, customizable content modeling, and gives you access to our full Astro API.
1. First, you would set up a new Customer Case Study page type in Butter and create a page. With your page defined, the ButterCMS API will return it in JSON format like this:
{
"data": {
"slug": "acme-co",
"fields": {
"facebook_open_graph_title": "Acme Co loves ButterCMS",
"seo_title": "Acme Co Customer Case Study",
"headline": "Acme Co saved 200% on Anvil costs with ButterCMS",
"testimonial": "<p>We've been able to make anvils faster than ever before! - <em>Chief Anvil Maker</em></p>\r\n<p><img src=\"https://cdn.buttercms.com/NiA3IIP3Ssurz5eNJ15a\" alt=\"\" caption=\"false\" width=\"249\" height=\"249\" /></p>",
"customer_logo": "https://cdn.buttercms.com/c8oSTGcwQDC5I58km5WV",
}
}
}
2. The easiest way to integrate these pages in our app is going to be with server-side rendering.
To enable in this in your app (if you haven't already), open your astro.config.mjs file and add the output:'server' option to your defineConfig():
3. Now, create a new directory, customers, in your src/pages/ directory. Inside of this directory, create a new file, [slug].astro. This filename convention will allow you to dynamically pass the slug from ButterCMS as a new astro url route.
/src/pages/customers/[slug].astro:
--- //code block import Butter from "buttercms";
/* We recommend instantiating Butter with a utility class, such as this example: https://github.com/ButterCMS/astro-starter-buttercms/blob/main/src/utils/buttercmssdk.jsx, but we'll do it in this file for now */
const butterCMS = Butter("your_api_token");
// Grab the slug from the filename to fetch data from Butter and store Page fields as PageFields const caseStudyPageData = await butterCMS.page.retrieve("case_study", Astro.params.slug); const pageFields = caseStudyPageData.data.data.fields --- <html> <head> <title>{ pageFields.seo_title }</title> <meta property="og:title" content="{ pageFields.facebook_open_graph_title }" /> </head> <body> <h1>{ pageFields.headline }</h1> <img width="100%" src={ pageFields.customer_logo }> <p set:html={ pageFields.testimonial } /> </body> </html>
That's it! If you browse to /customers/acme-co/, you'll see your page populated with the content you created in Butter.
